Welcome and Blessings!

Thank you so much for stopping by! I have named this blog "Running to the Cross" because that is what I often find myself doing...running to be with my Lord Jesus! I often cover many aspects of life on my blog, as it is my journal. I used to write things down in all sorts of notebooks, but my writings would soon be lost. So I decided that it was time to start a blog and share my thoughts and ideas with others. Many topics you will find here are prayers, homemaking and organization, children and pregnancy, funny stories, and the challenges of parenting and motherhood. If you enjoy my blog and leave me a comment, you are likely to have me visit! I love meeting others and gleaning from the lives of others. May you be blessed! Your friend in Christ, Heather

Is it Wednesday already?

I YI YI!!! WEDNESDAY!

Okay, so not everything got done, we still enjoyed ourselves and our time together ended all too quickly! I didn't get around to doing a lot of the things that I normally do. But there's always tomorrow!

The good news is that my kitchen stayed clean, and still is! You know what they say, the house goes as the kitchen does...I wish that was true! I am only able to keep up with one thing at a time. The rest of my house is NOT as clean as I would like it. I am behind in laundry, my floors need a little cleaning and I AM TOTALLY & COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED! There's always tomorrow! (O; You need to know I am human like the rest of us...guess what?! Large families are hard to keep up with!

While I was cleaning on Saturday, my girls were running behind me uncleaning! I swept the kitchen floor, and then my girls got into the bruschetta chips and dumped them all over the floor along with a basket of crayons. I cleaned the living room floor and then they decided to spread blankets all over it...along with dolls and doll clothes! Then, when I could take no more, my dear friend showed up with her SIL who still to this day can't believe that I have seven children. Just as soon as she thought that she had seen them all, another one appeared! Yip, there are seven of them, and they are all very good at making messes...sometimes, when they want something, they are good at cleaning up those messes.

So for all you folks that thought that I had dropped off the face of the earth, I'M STILL HERE!!! Just a little busy these days! Maybe it will slow down soon, WHEN I'M 80!!!! {O;
Life is just a bus full of children!

Blessings!
Heather

Are any of your children old enough to help with chores?

My children are 13 yrs, 12 yrs, 9yrs, 6 yrs, and 21 months. The older 4 all have chores. My 6 yr does all the same chores as the older children. We have a chore chart for our children where the chores rotate so that they won't have to do the same chore everyday. When we can ,which is often, we give each of our children $5 a week for doing their chores. If they don't do them or do them reasonably well or their behavior is consistently not good on a given day they get $1 taken away for that day.

Since implementing this chore chart our home has been staying pretty clean and it keeps me from running around in cirles , getting nothing done, because I can't keep up with the messes of 5 children. How much harder must it be with 7? My goal is not a perfectly clean home, it's for a less chaotic home. I can't function in chaos and disorder : )

My children are 10 and younger. The ages are: Son (10), Son (8), Daughter (7), Daughter (5), Daughter (4), Daughter (2), Daughter (9 weeks)...The problem that we have is that my older children clean and my younger children (the three girls 5 and younger) make messes. Yes, they are being trained to help but (even just for a second) they slip out of my sight and undo everything that was done...when I am nursing baby. Now, I do try to keep them with me but I'm not always perfect (I don't sit around all day watching TV, though either...I never stop).

My older children are expected to clean the floors everyday after homeschooling before they can go outside. Since we haven't been homeschooling (this last week), our structure has been interupted. Things will probably get better once we begin homeschooling again.

In regards to a chore chart & such, we have one & they get paid for it when they do a good job.

Blessings!

Yes, it must be hard with so many younger children. I hope you didn't take offense to my comment. I was just suggesting what works for us. : ) I always assumed that children have chores because I did as a child. I actually have friends that don't make their children do chores because they feel it's a mommy's job only to take care of the home or they don't make their children do chores because they never had to do them themselves growing up. I hope I didn't come across the wrong way, I meant only good by my comment.
Have a great day!
